Computers and Language

Computers are good at computing - hence the name.

They’re better than us at logical tasks like math, statistics, and pattern recognition.

But when it comes to human language, they can’t beat us.

That’s because language is full of confusing and irregular nuances.

But, going all the way back to the 1940s, we’ve wanted computers to be better at language.

We’ve wanted machines that could understand and respond to natural language.

This goal led to the start of Natural Language Processing - one of the early branches of AI.

Let’s kick things off with that.
